Highway performance depends on the percentage or total tyre rubber that comes in contact with the road. H/T tyres are designed specifically for the highway so fuel economy is prioritised than absolute traction. They use functional tread grooves, internal structures and rubber composites which reduces the rolling resistance.
“Rolling resistance” actually defines how well tyre adheres to the road. Higher the rolling resistance, more the traction hence worse on fuel economy! So without any exception, H/T tyres return better fuel economy than A/T.
The ruggedness of A/T tyres increases point-contact pressure due to the specific design. While this is good for off-road, a lot of stress is exerted on the tread when riding the asphalt track. The A/T high contact pressure would make it exhaust more quickly than H/T when used on the highway. Many consumers using A/T tyres would usually go for wider set of wheels thus resolving the “wear” issue however, A/T deteriorates quicker than H/T; even those with similar dimensions.
A typical tyre in Dubai is expected to give least or zero-percent noise but again, it all depends on the built and terrain on which they’re used. A/T concerned with off-road boast large and square-shape tread block.
